Hearing Aid Repair
Modern hearing devices are marvels of technology. They’re able to offer incredibly individualized amplification with better sound quality and more useful applications than ever before thanks to major advancements in computer and battery technology. Rechargeable batteries even allow for a better seal against dirt and moisture than the hearing devices of the past, meaning they tend to require fewer repairs in the long run.
Still, hearing devices spend a lot of time in and around our ears, which are not the most hospitable environments for sensitive electronics. Wax buildup, moisture damage, and a variety of other factors mean that hearing devices can be expected to require an occasional repair. It may be that a set of hearing devices will stop working entirely, or that they don’t function as well as they used to.
At Advanced Hearing Solutions, we repair all major brands of hearing aids. Our years of expertise and careful attention to detail mean that we can get your hearing aids up and running in a short amount of time, in most cases, and functioning like new again.
We repair in-warranty hearing aids that were purchased from us free of charge. We are also happy to repair any other hearing aids, whether they were purchased from us or not, for a reasonable fee.
Our Repair Process
The first step of our repair process is careful inspection and diagnosis of the problem. We look over the obvious points of obstruction where wax buildup might cause an issue, but also carefully inspect the microphones, speakers, controls, wires, and processor to see where damage may have occurred. Sometimes microphones, speakers, and/or wire ends can become rusty, or a circuit board may need some attention.
After identifying the problem, we conduct a thorough cleaning of your hearing aids, inside and out, and perform the repair. When you receive your hearing aids back from us, they will be as new.
Sometimes a repair requires sending the hearing aids back to the manufacturer. If your hearing aids are under warranty, this will be done free of charge, but will mean that it will take a little longer to get your hearing aids back due to shipping times. Still, this usually takes less than 10 days.
Repair or Replace?
Hearing aids tend to have a lifespan of about 3 to 7 years. That looks like a pretty wide range, right? We each produce earwax of a different type and at a different rate. We also perspire more or less than others. With so many variables in our body chemistry, our hearing aids may endure more or less moisture, wax, and acidity, which will affect their lifespan significantly.
If you think your hearing aids are nearing their end of life, we are happy to consult with you about the appropriate steps to take. Hearing aids that are under warranty should almost always be repaired, but if you’re starting to have issues with an older set of hearing aids, a replacement may be a better bet in the long term. The industry is always advancing in terms of the quality of new hearing aids that are available, so if you’ve been wearing your hearing aids for 5 or more years, you might be surprised at the advancements in technology that a new set of hearing aids can bring, while also avoiding costlier out-of-pocket repairs.
Regular Cleaning and Care
Whatever the state of your current hearing aids, the best way to keep them functioning properly is to clean them regularly and take good care of them. Some important regular maintenance tips include:
- Wipe your hearing aids clean each night with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
- Once a week, perform a more thorough cleaning where you remove wax from crevices. A hearing aid cleaning kit is a good investment!
- Keep your hearing aids out of the bathroom when you’re showering to avoid moisture issues.
- Open the battery compartment every night to let them air out.
- Perform beauty routines before you put your hearing aids in. This will keep them safe from splashing water, makeup and hair sprays.
